YOM : composition and clarinet
BAPTISTE-FLORIAN MARLE-OUVRARD : organ
“Yom is a passionate nomad. For almost twenty years, he has traversed musical territories and registers. With each project, he invents a new way to make his clarinet work for him. Guided by rich and original artistic encounters, he breaks the codes of the klezmer tradition in which people sometimes would like to confine him.
With "Prière" (Prayer), the genres mix again and the horizon widens.
Geographically first of all, through the influence of music from India, Eastern Europe and the Middle East, but also structurally, in the contrast with the organ of the Philharmonie in Paris: Yom engages a dialogue with Baptiste-Florian Marle-Ouvrard, the official co-organist of the church of Saint-Eustache, Paris; the two musicians reflect on the voice and the ear, but also on the relationship between the sacred and the profane. How do you exist in the face of the eruption of sound generated by an ocean of pipes, and give life to the human breath that makes a single cylinder of noble wood sing? Yet the encounter is an immediate success. In the acoustic setting of the Grande Salle Pierre Boulez, Yom and Baptiste-Florian Marle-Ouvrard take us on a journey through the subtle wind sounds of their music, where inspiration is sometimes reminiscent of Pergolesi, Bach, Messiaen or Ligeti. Imbued with oriental sources that are both embraced and transcended, their music can be regarded as an incantation, of universal appeal, an intercultural dialogue — without any declared religious basis — "Prière" (Prayer), as emphasised in the epigraph to this creation, which refers above all to the spiritual dimension of art.
